About AIA private health insurance

Health insurance with AIA Vitality officially launched 16 March 2020 and replaces the myOwn product which ceased being on sale from 6 March 2020. The insurer operates on a for-profit basis and is issued by MO Health Pty Ltd.

Should you join before 30 April 2020, you’ll be eligible for an e-gift card valued up to $400 for couples and families purchasing a Combined policy and $200 for singles and single parents purchasing a Combined policy. The gift card can be used at Woolworths, rebel or Meyer.

Health insurance policies from AIA provides you protection with a wide range of Hospital and Extras options. The company offers many benefits but also has its drawbacks.

AIA Vitality health insurance - Pros

  • No premium increase for 1 April 2020.
  • Access to AIA Vitality, the wellness program that rewards you for taking steps to learn about and improving your health. When you have anAIA Vitality health insurance, you are exempt from paying the AIA Vitality contribution fee.
  • 5% discount on your AIA Health Insurance premium when joining. Your discount will remain for as long as you maintain an AIA Vitality status of Silver or above.
  • 5% discount on eligible AIA Priority Protection products (life insurance, TPD, trauma and income protection insurance) when bought via a broker.
  • 100% refund on your Hospital excess when you reach and maintain an AIA Vitality Silver status or higher and have held your policy for at least 6 months.

AIA Health Insurance Australia– Cons

Possible disadvantages of health insurance from AIA includes that ambulance-only policies are not available for purchase and Extras can’t be purchased separately but must be combined with Hospital insurance. As with all health funds, AIA private health insurance requires you to serve waiting periods for services and treatments.

Basic Hospital insurance offers minimal coverage at a very affordable price. These options might be suitable to young, healthy individuals who only want emergency ambulance cover and to be treated in a private hospital for accidents.

How to claim health insurance from AIA

For Hospital claims, the hospital will send your bill directly to the insurer for payment. You can generally claim Extras by using your HICAPs card at registered providers. Alternatively, general treatments can be claimed online via the Online Membership Service portal or email. You can also post your claim forms. The AIA Health Insurance claim form can be downloaded from the AIA website.
